Dr. Larkin is a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and board certified in family medicine. Additionally,he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice, and a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), and the President of the Indianapolis Medical Society. He practiced family medicine in Greencastle , Indiana from 1975-1986. While in Greencastle, he also was an adjunct professor at DePauw University , City Park President, Chairman of the BOD of Operations Life (volunteer paramedic community ambulance service), President of the Indiana Affiliate of the American Heart Association and President-elect of the Indiana Academy of Family Practice. From 1976-1980, he served as the Putnam County coroner. In 1986, he joined Eli Lilly and Company as a staff physician in the Employee Health Services component and in 1992 was promoted to the director of Corporate Health Services. Dr. Larkin was engaged in the design and implementation of a Lilly's domestic health plans from traditional indemnity, managed care and most recently Consumer Driven HRA/HSA plans. He has introduced and published the concept of on-site medical services integrated into community health care systems, as well as designed innovative preventive health programs. Lilly's unique screening colonoscopy program has been featured in many national publications, reviewed on the “TODAY SHOW”, secured a recognition award from the White House Council on Colon Cancer, and advocated in the New England Journal of Medicine. He has authored and co-authored an array of articles in various peer-reviewed journals advocating innovative and competitive health care delivery programs to improve quality and costs. Dr. Larkin is or has been a member of the board of directors of: Indiana Blood Center, Indiana Cancer Consortium, Indiana Colon Cancer Institute, Employers Forum of Central Indiana and the American Cabaret Theater. He is the immediate past President of the Indianapolis Medical Society. He has been a keynote speaker, presenter or panel member for a wide array of forums including: Society of Prospective Medicine, National Managed Care Forum, Coalition Against Cancer Forum, Grand Rounds-Indiana University School of Medicine, National Business Group on Health, Midwest Business Group on Health, Diabetes Care Services Indiana Department of Health, State of the Art national seminars (ACOEM), NASA Medical Conferences, Healthy People 2010 National Conference, HRSA for the US Federal Government, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) , Central for Disease Control (CDC) and the Midwest Medical Technology Conference, State of Indiana Pandemic Seminar. Dr. Larkin has received the following awards: C. Everett Koop National Award for Health Promotion, the 2002 National Award for Corporate Health Achievement (ACOEM), Profile in Progress Award from the National Breast Cancer Council, Health Care Hero Award from the Indianapolis Business Journal, Excellence in Public Health Award from the Indiana Department of Health, Preventive Medicine Award from the Hulman Public Health Foundation.
